1. You want to go off-road
If you’re an adventurer, you’ll appreciate that the 2014 Subaru Outback's standard all-wheel drive includes enhanced traction and stability. That’s why this model is popular in snowy and rainy areas of the country. The AWD elements and 8.7 inches of ground clearance make it a great car for off-roading. You’ll find it easy to keep the car in control, no matter how bumpy the road is. That being said, it’s still a fun drive for commuting on paved roads and running errands around town.
2. Spacious interior
You get plenty of space to stretch out with front legroom of 43 inches, while rear-seat passengers get 37.8 inches. The Outback has 71 cu-ft of maximum cargo capacity when the back seats are down, which makes it easy to fit camping kit, outdoor sports gear, or bulk shopping hauls. Reclining rear seats enhance comfort and versatility for all passengers. If you’re taking kids with you in the backseat, you’ll still have room for strollers, bags, and their gear with 34.3 cu-ft of cargo room.
Features like rails on the roof make it easy to mount bikes, kayaks, or extra luggage for vacation. If you want the option to tow, look for an available six-cylinder engine that enables the Outback to pull up to an estimated 3,000 pounds when properly equipped.
The 2014 Outback 3.6R Limited comes with a 3.6L horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, producing 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5i models use a 2.5L horizontally opposed ("boxer") four-cylinder engine. This will churn out 173 hp and 174 lb ft. of torque.
The 2014 Subaru Outback standard includes stability control and traction control. You’ll also get dusk-sensing headlamps, emergency braking assist, and speed-proportional power steering. A rearview camera is available starting on CVT-equipped Premium and Limited models. The 2.5i Premium models now have standard heated seats that will feel great when you’re driving through those snowy conditions.
