If you’ve driven the GT-R in a video game, you’ll feel right at home behind the wheel of the real thing. The heartbeat of the Nissan GT-R is the hand-built twin-turbocharged 3.8 L V6 that put out 565 hp, an upgrade of 20 hp from last year, in the Premium and Track Edition. The snarling NISMO® edition claims 600 hp for track-searing performance. For 2017, the GT-R has a new hood, grille, and bumper that manage frontal downforce for better handling. Inside, you’ll see upgrades like a dash with fewer buttons and a new eight-inch touch screen. The shift paddles for the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission were relocated to the steering wheel. It’s all wrapped in aggressive styling in an easy-to-live-with package.
1. Accessible performance
Ready to test your mettle with the right pedal? The 2017 Nissan GT-R makes it easy for even novice drivers to go fast with confidence. You can point the car where you want it to go, and the tuned suspension, alongside stability and traction control make sure it follows your direction. The six-speed dual-clutch sequential automatic transmission completes shifts faster than you can blink, and the paddle shifters link you directly with the car.
2. Performance monitoring tech
Just like a video game, the GT-R features infotainment tech for recording and monitoring your driving performance. You can review data like cornering G-forces, steering input, gear position, and lap times via the eight-inch display. This is ideal for your track day adventures.
You’ll see the GT-R’s exterior is just as aggressive as what’s under the hood. But there’s a method to the madness of all those angles, edges, and curves. The GT-R scores a 0.26 drag coefficient, a measure of aerodynamic efficiency. That means the slick coupe easily slips through the air, improving performance and fuel economy. Those wide air ducts on the front bumper serve a purpose, too. They stream air through the body to increase downforce and improve the GT-R’s grip and stability at track speeds.
If a standard GT-R doesn’t give you enough of a thrill, consider the track-ready GT-R NISMO edition. It packs 600 hp under the hood, along with a stiffer body structure, a front fascia with more cooling area and downforce, side skirts, a rear wing, and lightweight forged alloy wheels. With all that power, the 2015 NISMO blasts from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds.
While the GT-R is well equipped, there are some attractive options packages. If you live or drive where temperatures fall, the Cold Weather Package adds a special coolant mixture to help the V6 better handle low temperatures. Available interior packages offer hand-stitched semi-aniline front-seat interior treatments in three different colors. For deep pockets, the available five-figure titanium exhaust system is tailor-made for NISMO models.
